Two of Paul McCartney's
Favorite Charities At Odds
Friday,
October 22, 2004
In 1996, Linda McCartney, the late wife of ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney was
bestowed with a Lifetime Achievement Award by People for the Ethical Treatment
of Animals. The famed photographer, who died in 1998 after a long battle with
breast cancer, was a longtime supporter of the animal rights organization
and even appeared in an ad for the group, denouncing fishing as
"cruel." This makes word that PETA's planned protest of an upcoming
event to benefit McCartney's breast cancer foundation, Garland Appeal USA,
most shocking to say the least. The function, chaired by actress Andie
MacDowell ("Groundhog's Day," "sex, lies, and videotape"),
takes place October 29 at the Diana Wortham Theatre in Asheville, NC, and
has the support of such stars as Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody and the band
R.E.M. The point of contention with PETA is over the involvement of a group
called Casting for Recovery, an organization which offers women struggling
with breast cancer the opportunity to attend a fly fishing retreat. The
organizers of CFR point out that the fish are not harmed, only captured
and released, but PETA remains steadfast in their disapproval. To see the
new public service announcement for the event, dubbed "Enduring
Ties" (which was shot and edited by "Communication Breakdown"

'Communication
Breakdown' Producer Battles Cancer
Tuesday,
October 19, 2004
"It seems like every time we make a film, life imitates what we're
putting on the screen," says filmmaker
Richard
O'Sullivan. "We did a
movie about government tyranny ['Radio Free Babylon'] and got hounded by the
FBI. We did a movie about independent thinkers battling a corporate takeover [ 'Communication
Breakdown'] and had to fight the studio every day. I guess we
should've thought of that before we started making a documentary about
cancer." Click here to read more…

'Communication
Breakdowners' To Star in New National Lampoon Movie
Monday,
October 18, 2004
Two of the stars of the upcoming
Richard
O'Sullivan film,
"Communication
Breakdown," Jasmin
St. Claire
and Brian
Heffron, will next appear in the upcoming "National
Lampoon's Dorm Daze 2: Semester at Sea" (the latest chapter in the
continuing "Animal House" saga) from MGM. National Lampoon's
previous forays into the film world included the original "Animal
House" (which launched the big-screen career of John Belushi), the
"Vacation" movies starring Chevy Chase as the loveable buffoon Clark
Griswald, and the recent "Van Wilder." "Dorm Daze 2" marks
the third film in under a year for St. Claire and Heffron.

'Communication
Breakdown' Director Dreams Big
Tuesday,
October 5, 2004
The images which run through
Richard
O'Sullivan's head while he sleeps are usually quite tame. "I
rarely have weird dreams," says the "Communication
Breakdown"
helmer. "Probably because my conscious thoughts and my writing are so
fucked up, my subconscious doesn't really need to work shit out."
That wasn't the case recently, however, when a dream caused the director to
wake up in a cold sweat. "In it, the entire cast and crew of CB was out
in this desert shooting some lame ass 'Star Wars' fan pic bullshit. Danny
[Lashley] was Han Solo. John
Burgess
was Luke Skywalker. Blair
Peery
was both Chewbacca and Jabba the Hut. And Katie
Lester
was Princess Leia...in the bikini and chains ensemble from 'Jedi' obviously.
Needlessly to say, I didn't know whether to laugh, cry, or retire from show
biz. Katie was really cute in the outfit though." To see Katie
Lester
(sans Jabba's chains) in scenes from "Communication
Breakdown,"

Brian Heffron:
Heavyweight Champ of Comedy?
Monday,
October 4, 2004
In the blood and guts world of wrestling,
Brian
Heffron's role was often to provide comic relief as a character
known as "The Blue Meanie." Interestingly enough, not much has
changed since he made the switch to the big screen. "Brian's
awesome," says director Richard
O'Sullivan. "At the height of his wrestling career, he would
use a move called the moonsault, which basically entailed him jumping off the
top rope, cutting a backflip, and landing belly-first on his prone opponent.
It required incredible athleticism, skill, and grace, especially when you
consider how freaking heavy Brian was at the time. That he could do that
without killing himself or the guy he was working with to this day amazes me.
But that's the same type of performer he is on-screen. Completely organic and
natural. He's Jackie Gleason-on-acid."
Dan
Lashley
also talks about Heffron in part seven of an exclusive interview on this site.
