'Communication Breakdowners' Go to 'Heaven'

Wednesday, May 18, 2005

Four "Communication Breakdown" stars -- Satu Rautaharju, Katie Lester, John Michael Burgess, and Aleks West -- hope that their careers fly higher than the Pearly Gates now that they've joined the cast of "Breach of Heaven," the long-awaited fantasy pilot from Writer/Producer/Director Richard O'Sullivan. Longtime O'Sullivan collaborator, Dan Lashley, is also set for what will be a recurring role, playing a mysterious (and somewhat sleazy) entertainment mogul named Claudius Hex. "Breach" producers have launched a casting search to fill some twenty roles in the teen soap opera about warring factions of angels on earth. For more info,

'Communication Breakdowners' Staying Busy This Spring

Wednesday, May 11, 2005

The cast and crew of "Communication Breakdown" are showing up all over the place in recent days. Katie Lester (Lori) will soon be seen in "Cutting Room," a film distributed by Brain Damage Films. Katie plays a film crew member who has her arms severed by a movie's writer (no truth that the flick was originally titled "The Dan Lashley Story"). Meanwhile, Dan Clayton-Luce (Skater Boy) has landed a major role in the independent feature "Backyard Hero." Plus, the always-busy Satu Rautaharju has joined the band Duende in addition to her duties as a TV host and model (Satu recently did a sizzling session with Zeroflesh.com). 'Radio Free Babylon' Planned as a Trilogy?

Sunday, May 8, 2005

Word has it that there's a lot more to the long-awaited re-launch of Richard O'Sullivan's controversial (and much-lauded) "Radio Free Babylon" than originally expected. In addition to RFB (often dubbed the "Citizen Kane of Underground Cinema"), there will apparently be two other films based upon the same cast of characters to follow. Rounding out the RFB trilogy will be "Feast of Babylon" and "Babylon Moon," which O'Sullivan promises will take the citizens of fictional Babylon, Virginia on a "dadaesque journey that will delight, sicken, and mortify." Production on the first film in the trilogy is expected to begin in 2006. O'Sullivan is currently beginning pre-production on "Breach of Heaven."

'Communication Breakdown' Star Wrestles With His Past

Sunday, May 8, 2005

Almost a decade after he burst onto television screens as the loveably goofy "Blue Meanie," wrestler-turned-actor Brian Heffron (Jake in "Communication Breakdown"), is returning to his roots. On June 12, Heffron will rejoin his former colleagues from Extreme Championship Wrestling for a national pay-per-view special entitled "ECW: One Night Only." ECW was the controversial troupe that sparked a resurgence in the wrestling industry in the mid-90's which led to record business in the game of "grunt and groan." Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Federation (now World Wrestling Entertainment) and Ted Turner's World Championship Wrestling would go on to drop their old marketing formulas in order to adapt a more "ECW-like" strategy, a tactic which led to some of the highest ratings in the history of cable television. After several years of bloody combat, ECW and WCW fell by the wayside with WWE carrying on as the sole powerhouse, picking up most of the other organizations' talent and trademarks. It is WWE serving as the producer of the June 12 PPV. "I'm thrilled that we're gonna get to see the Blue Meanie back in the spotlight," says Heffron's pal, "Communication Breakdown" director Richard O'Sullivan. "Vince knows what kind of bond Brian has with his fans because they rallied around the Meanie and saved his job the last time he was with that company. Now with Vince going Hollywood with WWE Films and Brian breaking through as such a solid comic actor in several movies, this is looking more and more like a perfect fit."
