Fans of
Vampire Show Protest With a Good Deed
Tuesday,
February 24, 2004
|
An
effort to save the cult favorite TV show "Angel" from extinction has
taken on a new dimension that is helping the needy. Fans of the WB series,
which was given its pink slip by the WB last week, are purchasing boxes of
Wheaties to donate to food banks in order to raise awareness about the show's
plight. The Wheaties connection came about because the title character (played
by David Boreanez) is often referred to as "The Champion of the
People" and Wheaties is "The Breakfast of Champions." Producers
of the show are making last-ditch efforts to sell "Angel," a darkly
amusing fantasy/action epic about the journey for redemption of a once-evil
vampire cursed with a soul, to UPN or another willing network.

Date for LCE
Party in New York Pushed Back
Sunday,
February 15, 2004
|
Due to the rigors of pre-production on the upcoming film "Communication
Breakdown" and numerous scheduling conflicts, organizers for the Lost
Colony Entertainment function to benefit animal charities (which was
originally scheduled for February 27) have pushed the date back until after
LCE wraps filming. The party, which will feature several of the bands
performing on the
"Communication
Breakdown"
soundtrack, will now be held this coming summer (with a specific date to be
announced). The venue, New York City's popular nightspot The Cutting Room
(co-owned by "Sex & The City" star Chris Noth), remains the
same.

'Anti-piracy'
Video Distributor Accused of Soliciting Pirated Film
Monday,
February 9, 2004
|
A video distributor who assisted the FBI in aggressively
pursuing video pirates has now been accused of soliciting bootlegged copies of
the new Bernardo Bertolucci film entitled "The Dreamers." Rob
Feinstein of the Pennsylvania-based RF Video, posted a message on his website,
offering to pay "top dollar" for a copy of the controversial film,
which was recently slapped with an NC-17 rating for its strong sexual content.
The distributor assisted authorities late last year in sending a Virginia man
to prison for bootlegging unauthorized copies of his material. Feinstein
himself has sold pirated materials for over a decade.

'Murder of
John Stephens' Actor Joins 'Communication Breakdown'
Monday,
February 9, 2004
|
Actor Jonathon
"J.D." Demers, who garnered a Silver Reel Award for his work in
the title role of the acclaimed film "The Murder of John Stephens,"
has joined the upcoming "Communication
Breakdown" as flamboyant actor Ian Catchpole. Director Richard
O'Sullivan loves the character. "Ian's this over-the-top actor who
thinks he's Sean Connery but is actually closer to a bargain bin William
Shatner. He hits the vodka, gets suicidal over the death of his cat, and
imagines he's James Bond. J.D.'s such a wonderful actor and I think he's gonna
be a hoot in this. I loved his work in 'John Stephens,' but this is certainly
a departure." Demers, who has been seen in such projects as Ted Turner's
epic civil war drama "Gods and Generals" and NBC's "The West
Wing," is perhaps best known for playing a race car crew chief in a
series of Circle K commercials featuring fictional NASCAR legend Toby Burke.

the recent thriller "Ghost of the Needle," was last seen on
television playing the role of a smarmy film executive during the last season
of "Dawson's Creek."

Charisma Carpenter is actively lobbying for the lead role in a much
talked-about big screen version of "Wonder Woman." The star is best
known for her portrayal of part-demon/part mall chick Cordelia Chase on the WB

Actress
Meredith
Sause will appear on next week's pivotal episode of the WB's hit series

Phony.

CBS
Apologizes For Janet Boobie Incident
Monday,
February 2, 2004
|
A
spokesperson for the CBS television network has offered a public apology for a
bizarre incident which occurred during Sunday's Super Bowl halftime show. As
pop singer Janet Jackson ended a multi-star lip-synch fest which included such
notables as P-Diddy, Nelly, and Kid Rock (the only artist who actually sang),
former Britney Spears boy toy Justin Timberlake appeared on stage and "accidentally"
ripped off part of Jackson's top, revealing her 37 year old right breast. CBS
passed the blame along to its skanky Viacom sister MTV, who claimed that the
whole thing was completely unrehearsed and unintentional. As of this time, no
one in the Viacom family has yet to offer an apology for the crappy music
itself.
