Lionsgate
Picks Up Movies Starring 'Communication
Breakdown' and 'Traveling Man' Hotties
Tuesday,
April 25, 2006
|
Two films starring actresses cast in Lost Colony projects
have been picked up by Lionsgate Entertainment (the people who brought us such
fare as the Oscar-winning "Crash," the blockbuster slasher film
"Saw," and the upcoming Laurence Fishburne movie "Akeela and
the Bee").
The burgeoning Toronto-based powerhouse will distribute
both the darkly humorous horror flick "Motor Home Massacre," which
stars actress/model Shan Holleman ("Traveling
Man"), and "National Lampoon's Dorm Daze 2," which features
"Communication
Breakdown" star Jasmin
St. Claire ("Metal's Darkside").
Interestingly enough, St. Claire was cast by producers of
the National Lampoon film after they saw footage of her in the Richard
O'Sullivan-directed "Breakdown."
Holleman, on the other hand, was cast this year in the Fred
Hueston TV vehicle "Traveling
Man" after O'Sullivan saw an advance copy of "Massacre."
Holleman and O'Sullivan had previously worked together on
the music video for "Superficial Mind" by singer/songwriter Judson.

Movie
About Radio Hits the Radio and Gets
Complex
Saturday,
April 22, 2006
|
As "Communication
Breakdown" prepares for a special screening in filmmaker Richard
O'Sullivan's old hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina, the alternative
radio powerhouse in that city is rolling out the red carpet for the rock &
roll movie in style.
"There's no other station better to launch our
promotional tour on than this one," says O'Sullivan. "We were
listening to WSGE [91.7 on the FM dial] when we first started working on the
script so their attitude and eclectic musical tastes no doubt seeped into this
film through osmosis. It's really like things have come full circle."
On Monday, May 22, WSGE's "Complex Radio" will
devote two full hours to a "Communication
Breakdown Listening Party," in which the makers and stars of the
movie will be joined in-studio by musical guests The
Situationals (who perform two songs on the film's soundtrack), Seth
Boulton, and NEEN. All three of those acts will play live at the May 27 SK
NetCafe screening in Charlotte as well.
O'Sullivan says Situationals guitarist Kelly Morse has
played a huge part in the festivities.
"I think in twenty years when he's inducted into the
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Kelly's plaque will read 'Mr.
Kashapalooza," says the director, referring to the 'Communication
Breakdown' film and music tour which will hit colleges across North
America in the fall. "In addition to the great work he did on the
scoring, he also assisted in the audio mix of the film along with the great
Mark Lambert of Audio Works Sound Studio, and he's been a genius when it comes
to making things happen with these events. All that and he's a damn fine
character actor too."
Morse appears in the TV pilot, "Traveling
Man," playing the loveably inappropriate Ned. "Traveling
Man" stars Fred
Hueston, who Executive Produced "Communication
Breakdown."
The special
"Communication
Breakdown"
edition of WSGE's "Complex Radio" will air on 91.7 FM from 10 pm
until midnight on Monday, May 22.

Fred
Hueston Launches New Business Talk Show
Wednesday,
April 19, 2006
|
Actor/Producer Fred
Hueston ("Communication
Breakdown," "Traveling
Man") just wasn't busy enough. In addition to his Hollywood
activities, his syndicated newspaper column, his Clear Channel radio show,
and several outside business projects, he has now launched a new venture
called "Growing Your Business."
Teaming up with PBS personality Lyna Farkas, a noted author
and artist, the always energetic Hueston (who has appeared as an on-air
personality on such outlets as HGTV and The Discovery Channel) will offer
advice to entrepreneurs on the new program, set to air on the All Talk Radio
Network beginning the first week in June.
"This show will hopefully humanize the process of
starting and operating your own business," says Hueston. "We'll
provide helpful, useful information in an easy going and simple-to-understand
manner. This show will be like having two friends guide you through what
normally would be a very difficult process."
A television commercial promoting the show was shot
recently by Hueston's filmmaking partner, "Communication
Breakdown" director Richard
O'Sullivan, and features the always reliable Pink Floyd classic,
"Money." To check out the spot,

Is 'Communication Breakdown' Star the Wonder Woman of Goth Rock?
Sunday,
April 16, 2006
|
As always, actress/model/rocker Satu Rautaharju (who plays Misty in
"Communication
Breakdown") is making news. This week, the entertainment channel Star-TV (Canada's version of the E! network) reported that the Finnish beauty was still in the running (along with such notables as Jessica Alba, Katie Holmes, Charisma Carpenter, Lindsay Lohan, Mischa Barton, Kate Beckinsale, and Jessica Biel) to nab the lead role in the upcoming "Wonder Woman" movie from producer Joel Silver and director Joss Whedon. To read more on that story, Click here...
Also, after it was reported that Rautaharju's band, Straight Razor Seduction, would likely play the upcoming "Kashapalooza" cross-country college tour in the fall, the internet has been abuzz regarding the cult group's reunion (they haven't played together since their famous "Dawson's Creek" appearance). This weekend, the SRS promotional clip for "Kashapalooza" (which debuted on this site over a week ago) garnered more than 20,000 hits on the broadband internet channel YouTube, surpassing several featured clips from such powerhouses as "South Park" and Kevin Smith's "Clerks 2."
"I think we might've made some people nervous without even trying to," says Writer/Producer/Director
Richard
O'Sullivan. "Once we started getting more hits than some of Kevin Smith's clips, which they were heavily promoting, they pulled our thumbnail from the front page. The clip's still up, still getting hits, but it's like they're trying to hide us so that we don't draw attention away from the movies that actually have a million dollars to pay them for advertising. I don't blame them really. I'd probably do the same thing."

'Communication Breakdown' Star Undergoes Major Surgery
Tuesday,
April 11, 2006
|
Wrestler-turned-actor Brian Heffron (who plays Jake the security guard in
"Communication
Breakdown") is recuperating after having part of his left lung removed during life-saving surgery.
"I don't think any of us had any idea it was this serious," says Heffron's friend, filmmaker
Richard
O'Sullivan. "After Brian collapsed in Oregon a few weeks ago, everyone just thought he had the flu and it triggered an asthma attack, which he really hadn't had a big problem with since he was a kid. Fortunately, they were able to get in there, detect the problem, and take care of it."
Heffron's ailment was described by doctors as Empyema, an infection which leads to massive pressure in the lungs. If left untreated, it can cause major damage to vital organs. Heffron's lung had been so ravaged by the infection, doctors had no choice but to remove part of it in order to save his life.
In addition to his exploits as a pro wrestling cult icon, Heffron has appeared in such film and television projects as "Beyond the Mat" (produced by Oscar-winner Ron Howard) and the WB sitcom "Nikki."

Good News for 'Communication Breakdown' Cutie
Tuesday, April
4, 2006
|
Model-turned-actress Aubrey
Goss has certainly been through a turbulent couple of years. Shortly after
shooting scenes for her film debut as Lurleen, a teenaged hillbilly temptress
in "Communication
Breakdown," the young beauty was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease, a
form of cancer which is highly treatable if detected early.
After several months of chemotherapy, Goss went into full
remission and is now completely cancer-free. The star, who recently gave birth
to her first child, a son, is anxious to get back to her modeling and acting
career.
"Aubrey's such a sweet girl," says her "Communication
Breakdown" co-star Dan
Lashley. "It broke our hearts that she had to go through all this the
past couple of years and we're happy things are looking up for her now. She
deserves all the happiness in the world."

'Dawson's
Creek' Band to Reunite for
'Kashapalooza?'
Tuesday,
April 4, 2006
|
Satu
Rautaharju didn't wanna wait for her life to be over...so she hit the
creek. "Dawson's Creek" that is. In one of the legendary WB teen
series' funnier episodes, Satu and her real-life band Straight Razor Seduction
rocked the house as Dawson (James Van Der Beek) got a job working on the set
of a music video.
"Satan himself would be proud," proclaimed actor
Hal Oszan's character, the unbearable (yet ultimately loveable) director Todd
Carr, a man so arrogant Simon Cowell would grimace in his presence.
Carr's comments aside, Rautaharju and her band mates Brian
D. Rankin, Tym Dvorak, and Sam Tyler would certainly leave a lasting
impression on fans of the popular show, which continues to live today in
reruns on SuperStation TBS. However, the band broke up shortly after their
appearance on "Dawson" and haven't played together since.
"Satu's fronted a couple of other bands since
then," says her friend, filmmaker Richard
O'Sullivan. "But SRS was the one that had the breakthrough potential
I think. If there's anyway we can make it happen, I'd love to see them get
back together and play some dates."

Special Advance
Screening of 'Communication Breakdown' Scheduled
Monday, April
3, 2006
|
As he gets set to return to his
former hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina for a special advance screening
of his film "Communication
Breakdown," filmmaker Richard
O'Sullivan says he's feeling a certain amount of "closure."
"The
past four or five years have been a wild-ass ride," says the director.
"Both professionally and personally...with most of the drama going down
in Charlotte. So to go back there, after all the mayhem, after all the strife,
is kinda sweet."
O'Sullivan, who just announced plans for a new romantic
comedy entitled "One Night With You," will be on hand Saturday, May
27, along with other "Communication
Breakdowners," as the quirky comedy is unveiled for an early sneak
peak at the SK NetCafe.
In addition to the screening, live music will be on tap as
well, with "Communication
Breakdown" soundtrack artists The Situationals (featuring
"Traveling Man" star Kelly Morse) hitting the stage along with
acclaimed singer/songwriters Seth Boulton and NEEN.
"This is just a sample of 'Kashapalooza' coming up in
the fall," says O'Sullivan, referring to the "Communication
Breakdown" film and music tour that will hit colleges later this
year. "Danny
[Lashley] and I envisioned this when we sat down in 2002 and started
working on the script. From the very beginning, we wanted this to be more than
just an indie film. We saw it as a big 'Traveling Thunder'-style
party-on-wheels. I mean, yeah, we're not exactly curing cancer here but I
still feel like we've accomplished something."

Radio is the sound salvation and
broadcasting exec Amanda Byrne (Merrybelle Park) is cleaning up the
station as disc jockeys Cary Martin (Willie Repoley) and Kash Flagg
(Dan Lashley) bite the hand that feeds them in "Communication
Breakdown."
