'Real World' Star Helps Sumo Champ Get Real Fit

Sunday, April 10, 2005

In what some are calling "the largest reality show ever," one of the original stars of MTV's "The Real World" is on a mission to help America's heftiest athlete get his weight under control. Eric Nies, who was part of the show that pioneered the current reality television craze, will host a new series called "Get Tiny," in which he will attempt to whip World Sumo wrestling champ (and star of HBO's "Oz") Emanuel "Tiny" Yarbrough into shape. Nies, who hosted such dance-oriented shows as "The Grind" and the updated "Dance Fever," is also a noted fitness guru with a successful line of workout videos under his belt. Yarbrough, a former college football star who has competed in both judo and the Ultimate Fighting Championships, weighs in at a whopping 770 lbs. The fighter hopes to shed 400 lbs under the tutelage of Nies.

Controversial 'Radio Free Babylon' to Re-Launch in 2006?

Saturday, April 9, 2005

It is perhaps the most controversial unproduced motion picture script in the history of independent cinema. The infamous "Radio Free Babylon (Or How to Suck the Brain of a President's Daughter)" burst out of the skull of "Communication Breakdown" director Richard O'Sullivan and began circulating around Hollywood in 2000. Soon, stars like Anthony Stewart Head (Giles on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), Lindsay Felton (Randy Quaid's daughter in "Grind"), and Tanya Roberts ("That 70's Show," "Charlie's Angels") attached to the project with rocker Roddy Bottum (Faith No More, Imperial Teen) coming onboard to provide the music. However, before the movie could become a reality, a strange series of incidents (including on-set sabotage, gunplay, and an FBI investigation) caused the project to slam on the breaks. Now there are rumblings that the film might finally get off the ground. To read reviews from Francis Ford Coppola's Zoetrope Entertainment about the original screenplay,

Screen captures from "Communication Breakdown" beauty Satu Rautaharju's latest film, "In the Woods," are now online. "In the Woods" is a teen slasher film which stars goth goddess Rautaharju in the uncharacteristic role of a straight-laced preppy nerd (although CB director Richard O'Sullivan insists that is the "real Satu"). Photos from Satu's TV show "E Asylum" are also online (featuring Satu interviewing the likes of "Scrubs" star Zach Braff and rockers HOD). To see those pics, and other great shots,

'Communication Breakdown' Producer Heading for Neverland?

Thursday, April 7, 2005

A source inside the camp of legendary producer Dr. Freeze says plans are already being made for "King of Pop" Michael Jackson's post-trial comeback sessions and that John Edmonds (who has recently worked with the likes of Mario Winans, N.E.R.D. spin-off group SpyMob, and produced Richard O'Sullivan's "Communication Breakdown") will be tapped to direct Jacko's first video. Dr. Freeze, best noted for his work with Jackson and Color Me Badd ("I Wanna Sex You Up"), has gone on record as saying the pop legend's spirits are up and that he's anxious to get back in the studio once putting the scandal behind him. Artist Takes Control of Sound and Career

Sunday, April 3, 2005

When singer/songwriter Del's first album "Go All Night" dropped last year, many insiders were saying that the sky was the limit for the 27 year old Floridian. But the one person who wasn't pleased was the artist himself. After a strong showing on the Billboard charts, airplay for his remake of George Michael's classic "Careless Whisper" on both MTV and BET (a clip masterminded by "Communication Breakdown" producer John Edmonds), and an electric appearance on "Soul Train," Del stunned observers when he announced that he was taking his music away from the standard R&B into a more serious, edgy direction. "I think it's obvious that the music industry is stuck in a creative rut," says "Communication Breakdown" helmer Richard O'Sullivan. "When the so-called experts took a look at Del, they thought 'Hey, let's turn him into the next Usher' or whatever. Problem is, that's not who he is. He's something completely different. Quite possibly someone like Prince, Elvis, or even Kurt Cobain, who just comes in, says 'You're not gonna put me in this narrowly defined box,' and then just reinvents the whole scene without stopping to ask anyone's permission to do so. I think his work is strong enough to turn the industry upside down, and bygod, I think it's about time someone did." While we wait for new Del tracks to surface, you can see the "Careless Whisper" clip by
